On the top of most peoples list when visiting Africa is pursuing a chance to photograph Africa’s 'Big Five' lions, elephants, rhino, cape buffalo, and of course leopard. We have found the best way to do this is from open landrovers, on private game reserves, some are adjacent to the famed Kruger National Park. Unlike the National Parks, you can leave the roads and track animals right into the bush. Camps offer two game drives or game walks into the bush each day.

Your highly qualified and well-trained Game Ranger will host you in camp, and entertain you in the bush. Their knowledge and experience will enable you to learn and enjoy the many secrets of the African wild. Trackers accompany most game drives, and their intimate bush knowledge and instinct will provide fascinating insights to the flora and fauna. In addition to keeping you safe, rangers and the game tracker's job is to get you up close for that special photograph. Just bring plenty of film.

The bush camps and lodges are anything but bush when it comes to comfort, amenities, and service. There is no such thing as roughing it in any of our featured camps.

Expect the very best when it comes to food and wine. It seems like it's always time to eat or snack on some delectable goodie. From cooked to order breakfasts, to lavish lunch buffets, to dinners around a roaring fire in a Boma, it's a grand dining experience.

The Bush Experience

Mala Mala

Mala Mala

Mala Mala is recognized as a premier game-viewing destination in Southern Africa. The private reserve is situated adjacent to Kruger National Park, and the award winning Main Camp is in the heart of the action. Their leopard sightings are phenomenal. Many consider this to be the best destination for viewing Africa's "Big Five."

From the moment of arrival in the reserve you know you are in a unique place.

Kirkmans/Harry's

Kirkmans' with eighteen guest cottages, is a colonial styled Mala Mala camp located on an elevated site overlooking the Sand River with spectacular views of the unspoiled wilderness. The original homestead is decorated in 1920's style with many old photographs and memorabilia. The colonial atmosphere of an old South African homestead is preserved in each cottage. Every detail is as authentic as possible, except for the air-conditioning and overhead fans.

Harry's Camp is recognized as 'the camp with a difference' on the Mala Mala Reserve. It has an 'African Cultural' safari theme, that of the Ndebele tribe. It's the smallest and most intimate of the three Mala Mala camps. The accommodation consists of twelve twin rooms. Everyone appreciates the wonderful, relaxed and informal atmosphere of this bush camp while enjoying a total escape.

Singita

Singita

Singita

The ambience that is unique to Singita, makes it a very special Safari destination. The food is superb, and the service refined. The wines from their huge cellar are the best that can be found in South Africa. The only problem with Singita is you won't want to leave.

Stay in either Ebony Lodge, which is colonial styled, or Boulders with a more contemporary feel. Both are at the top in World-class luxury. No wonder they are a Relais & Chateaux property.

Singita's world is peaceful; man has a limited presence here, and doesn't intrude on nature. Visiting here is a very special and enjoyable African experience.
