Victoria Falls

Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, lives up to its reputation of being spectacular. The natives call the Falls "the smoke that thunders."

The main attraction is the Falls, but there are plenty of other things to see and do, including great shopping for African handcrafts and intricate wood carvings.

One of the great ways to see the Falls is by helicopter, or the Flight of Angels.

A breakfast or sundowner cruise on the Zambezi is a great way to safely see hippos, crocks and elephants while dining or sipping on the mighty river.

Other things to do include white water rafting, jet boating, gorge swinging, and the world famous bungy jump from the bridge over the Zambezi.

The Stanley and Livingstone is newly opened to discerning guests seeking a tranquil and luxurious environment away from the hustle and bustle of Victoria Falls town. It sits on its own private reserve with abundant game. All 10 rooms are suites and have their own living room and separate bedroom with a choice of twin or double beds. All rooms have luxury amenities. There must not have been a decorating budget, as no expense was spared in decorating this magnificent property. The food is excellent, and the last time I was there, a herd of elephants came up to investigate while I was having breakfast on the veranda.

Sussi & Chuma

Sussi & Chuma is on the Zambian side of the Falls. Guest accommodations consist of 10 luxury tree houses, built into the living canopy of giant ebony trees lining the bank of the Zambezi. Each unit has a private river view. The main lodge features a spectacular raised bar/lounge deck, open air dining area, swimming pool and lawns sweeping down to the water's edge. Resident wildlife, such as hippopotamus and elephant, wander through the Lodge grounds. A wide choice of activities are available at this elegant, secluded retreat. Expertly guided visits to Victoria Falls and rainforest on the Zambian side are included.

The "Five Star" Royal Livingstone Hotel stretches luxuriously along the banks of the Zambezi River. It consists of a series of colonial-style buildings, with deep verandas, set amidst indigenous trees and plants.

The main hotel is a sequence of thatch-roofed buildings, very African in nature. The lounge, restaurant and bar (one of the best in Africa) are classic. The hotel visually links the waters of the river with the terraces of the hotel. You are only footsteps from the Zambezi River and the Falls.
