Big Five Game Reserve Entrance to the Reserve and the Day Center
Home to three FOUR STAR LODGES !
A TRUE AFRICAN EXPERIENCE Originally called "Hillside Camp", this was the first of four lodges to be completed on the Game Reserve, which was recently voted the # 1 "Big Five" game reserve in the Eastern Cape. It consists of Eight individual chalets, each with private bath, verandah, telephone and even a hairdryer. Each chalet sleeps either a hunter and guest or two hunters. In addition to the chalets you will find a beautiful circular open-air dining room which surrounds a comfortable fire, an inside dining room, a large central living area, two bars, a swimming pool and outside entertainment area (Lapa).
The Second Lodge Built
This camp was the second camp built on the Reserve and has quickly become a favorite with couples and small groups. Elephants frequently come to drink at the water hole that is overlooked by the camp. In the evenings you can enjoy your favorite drink while you wait to see what will visit the waterhole next.
The Third Camp Was Built In The Trees
Completed in October of 2004, this is the newest lodge on the Reserve. It is the essence of bush luxury. The chalets have canvas walls which give guests the feel of an African tented safari, while not giving up the luxury of wood floors and true baths. Built among the trees this is a unique Luxury Lodge for select guests.
Out Camps One of the unique aspects of hunting with John X Safaris is that you will not be relegated to hunting on one two concessions; with over 3,000,000 acres of hunting area we are able to provide our clients with the experience of hunting vastly different areas. When hunting our outer areas you will be able to stay in one of our outer lodges. CLICK ON THUMBNAILS TO ENLARGE Groups Upon special arrangement, an entire camp may be booked exclusively for your group. If a group has several non-hunting members special arrangements can be made for day trips or overnight tours in and around the area. Of course, game drives are available on the Reserve and provide fantastic photo opportunities for viewing Elephant, Lion, Rhino, Hippo, Giraffe, Buffalo, Cheetah , Zebra and scores of plains game species along with approximately 250 different species of bird life.
