MOZAMBICAN SAFARIS

Hunting - Mozambique

Mozambique is our flag ship in southern Africa, making it one of the few areas where one has the opportunity of a true classical big five safari combined with a variety of plains game.

Our safaris take place in concession areas, Coutada 11 and 12, which form part of the Marromeu complex, bordering the mighty Zambezi River in the north and the Buffalo Reserve in the east.

The area is operated by one of Mozambique's oldest outfitters and covers approximately 500 square miles of vast wilderness. Here you will hunt a diverse habitat, extending from swamp to vast grassland flood plains into palm savannahs and thick forest. This diversity offers a broad-spectrum of game with 20 different game species to hunt ranging from the tiny Livingston's Suni to the mighty Elephant. Buffalo roam the open flood plains and swamp in herds of several hundred while experiencing large herds of Sable is not uncommon.

Five camps are scattered throughout the two concessions, with accommodation varying from comfortable East African style tented camps to old Portuguese hunter's camps. All rooms enjoy en-suite bathrooms with hot and cold running water, powered by generators and solar plants generating 220v electricity.

Hunting season runs from the 1 June to the 30 November each year. During this period one will experience warm to hot weather (65 F - 100 F) with rain throughout the season.

Our hunts vary in length with a minimum of 7 days to a maximum of 21 days, with the recommended being 10 days. All hunts are done in groups, a minimum of 2 hunters per group and a maximum of 6 in both areas.

Lastly, the Mozambican government views the safari industry in a positive light and sees sustainable hunting as a valuable conservation tool within rural communities. Most rural communities rely on meat provided by the safari operators during the hunting season and all hunters can feel assured that their contribution is adding to conservation development in Mozambique.
