TRAVELING WITH RIFLES - MOZAMBIQUE

Firearm Imports/Exports

With regards to your safari in Mozambique - Traveling from your country of origin directly to Johannesburg, South Africa, you will more than likely need to overnight in Johannesburg on your day of arrival. The following day will see you catching the only daily flight from Johannesburg to Beira, Mozambique.

When entering South Africa with a firearm, you will need to apply for a Temporary Import/Export Permit. We strongly recommend using Air 2000 / Hunters Support to assist you through this process. Follow the link, for all documentation and requirements. By sending Air 2000/Hunters Support the required details, they will apply for the permit on your behalf; meet you at the airport and walking you through customs onto your connecting flight. Please note Air 2000 Hunters Support does charge a minimal fee for this service – be sure to double check rates with them at the time of the service.

To make this as hassle free process as possible, for the benefit of our clients, John X Safaris has installed links for both the required application forms.

SAP 520 Application for the temporary import/export of firearms to South Africa.

US Customs Form 4457 for proof of ownership of the rifle/s from the USA.

For additional questions regarding traveling to South Africa with rifles or for a safari review this resource.

Hunters traveling with rifles will also require a Letter of Invitation from John X Safaris. Hit the link and complete the required fields prior to submitting your Letter of Invitation to Air 2000 Hunters Support or arriving at either of our international airports.

What People Are Saying

"My two sons and I had the best trip ever! My boys have thanked me numerous times for the trip of a life time. They are begging for round two. I also enjoyed the trip and loved seeing the joy on my boys’ faces! The staff, food, lodges and professional hunter were second to none. We felt like royalty! Thank you John X Safaris for the outstanding memories!"

"Everything was great. Top three hunts ever. I will be back!"

~ Martin Osthulm '13 from

"The opportunity to shoot in tough conditions was a perfect learning experience. Carl gave us the shooting and the trophies we were after. The Karoo was just like hunting the west, long shots in the wind were mandatory. The coast was like a different world. Chasing big animals in small clearings and big valleys made awesome TV! Thanks again I cannot wait to be back!"

"The hunting was superb and the trophies excellent. Greg and Bless are the best team I have hunted with in Africa. The food and accommodation at Oude Kraal and Lalibela were brilliant, thanks to Lauren and Charmaine, and Pam and I loved our 10 days in the Cape Province."

"This was my first trip to Mozambique & my first dangerous game hunt. Due to my professional hunters and tracker, I never had any concern over my safety. I was successful in all the game I hunted and all the game taken were mature trophies. I would recommend John X Safaris to anyone that was considering an African Hunt."
