A Swamp Hunt in Mozambique
Mozambique – Zambezi Delta
August 2009
Marc Hewston from Texas, USA, joined PH’s Carl van Zijl and Richard Ngubane for a 7 Day Buffalo/Sable Hunt in the Zambezi Delta. It was a great pleasure welcoming Marc back once again, this was to be his fourth hunt with John X Safaris, only this time we changed location. Marc spent his first afternoon admiring the banter between two strong hunting competitors in Steve Robinson & Rich Adams, not to mention their PH’s. Rifles were sighted in, and we were off on a big adventure. Our idea was to hunt the forest and open pans for the elusive Chobe Bushbuck and hoped to bump a good Sable along the edge of the floodplain. Marc’s luck turned after 3 days, bagging a old Chobe Bushbuck and a super Sable only a couple of hours apart. Day 4 saw the group heading into the Swamps for Cape Buffalo and a taste of LJ’s Spike Camp. Marc once again pulled off a text book shot on a old Buffalo bull, a very difficult feat considering the size of the herd. The trip back to camp in the Argo was to be a interesting affair with Richard landing us chin-deep in a Hippo path. Two hours later, another Argo, 1 broken tow rope and 8 very exhausted men — finally — got the Argo out. A great Safari, super trophies and many stories! ( And a few photos for Richard and his beloved Argo!)
Marc – It was a pleasure my friend, we look forward to having yourself and Madonna back in Camp with all your friends next year.
