We’re making the hunting community proud!

6th June 2010

While attending the Nebraska SCI Chapter Show in Omaha, we had an opportunity to meet with some of our hunters coming this season. A cold Nebraska morning  gave birth to the first concepts of how John X Safaris and our hunters could make a difference by giving back to local communities.   Those first ideas later turned into a reality with hard work by Chris Petersen, who was returning for his 3rd safari with John X Safaris. Chris spearheaded working through SCI to take  advantage of the well established SCI Blue Bag program which helps hunters to bring a “blue bag” as an extra piece of luggage, filled with much-needed items.
A few months later, numerous emails on and April fifth, 2010, was upon us. It was going to be an extraordinary day for John X Safaris. We had special friends Chris and Gene Petersen along with Doug Smith arriving in camp with our very first SCI Blue Bag. This was not only our first SCI Blue Bag, but was to be the launch of the John X Safaris – Making a difference campaign.
While taking a break from hunting one afternoon, we decided to head into Grahamstown and pay the Children’s Shelter a visit with the SCI Blue Bag.

Chris, Gene, Doug & the John X team with the Blue Bag before heading off to the shelter. The teams generosity was overwhelming.  The bag was so full the zip looked as if it was going to burst open at any given moment.

It was an incredible experience when we arrived at the shelter to hand over the SCI Blue Bag to the boys.  Their faces were worth a thousand words as they stood in awe of what was happening to them and the generosity shown by Chris, Gene and Doug.

Each boy received a T-shirt, a pair of shoes, a water bottle filled with candy, a tooth-brush and tooth paste and a face towel.  They also received a few soccer balls.  These item might seem very simple to many, but they made a difference in the lives of these young boys.  Most of whom had never owned a tooth-brush up until that day!

Chris, Gene and Doug – You have done the hunting community proud! Thank you for ‘making a difference’.  Your generosity has gone a long way and has done more in helping the boys than what you could ever imagine.
Note to all Hunters coming on Safari:    If you would like to participate in John X Safaris – Make a Difference Campaign, please go to our website www.JohnXSafaris.co.za  for more information, or to contact us.   We can put you in touch with the SCI Blue Bag Program or show you more ways of how you can help the Safari World of John X Safaris give back to our local communities.
