Another Reason to Return | John X Safaris
For Bob Phillips, Africa is familiar ground. Having hunted the continent numerous times and shared a good few safaris with us over the years, this trip wasn’t built around a long list of goals. It was simply another opportunity to get back into the African bush and see what the days would bring.
Teaming up with PH Stix and tracker MK, there may not have been a set plan, but for Bob, buffalo is always difficult to pass up. It didn’t take long for the team to find themselves back on the tracks, once again experiencing everything that has made buffalo such a constant part of Bob’s African adventures.
From there, the safari remained open, with a Lechwe along the way before attention turned to Fallow Deer. This hunt would prove particularly tough. A good stag was spotted in difficult terrain, and the opportunity looked promising but, just before Bob could get the shot off, the stag slipped away, and the hunt was back on.
For a hunter who has experienced Africa many times before, it’s no longer about arriving with a checklist. It’s about taking each day as it comes, enjoying the hunt for what it is, and finding another reason to return.
