John X Foundation & Conservation | Season Report 2020/21
When the world came to a halt during early 2020 and the grip of the pandemic set in to change our lives for the foreseeable future, one would have been forgiven if the choice of self-preservation outweighed the needs of those less fortunate. And while the Foundation’s goals were bold in it’s desire to continue on from the good work of previous seasons, we soon knew that an adjustment would not be a choice, but an enforced reality.
But like so many times before, when all seemed lost, then the true spirit of the hunting community stepped forward and made the difference that turned the tide from hopeless to hopeful. Our plans included a new school hall which would double as a community hall and clinic station. One disruption led to the next as our country dealt with one lockdown after the other, and soon our season and year was set to pass with very little achieved. The frustration just about broke us, as the second phase of our Foundations plans included a sports facility, which was slipping away with each passing day. We rolled the dice and made a decision to call on you. And you left us in awe. Within the space of eighteen months, including ten months of enforced lockdowns with zero travel you made it possible.
We built a sports facility, maintained our continued support of the school and completed the new hall. We took on Project 25 for our wildlife and successfully completed twenty-five new waterholes. Blood Origins told the story and you so generously provided the funds. And while many would prefer to remain anonymous, one cannot ignore what you and your donations have made possible over the course of the past two years.
In no particular order, each one as important and appreciated as the other we give thanks to…

Our appreciation knows no bounds and if only the world could see the genuine difference you have made to our wildlife and the lives of the kids at the Carlisle Bridge Farm School, then maybe they would understand the importance of hunting for not only the sustainability of wildlife, but even more importantly, the existence of the people who forge out a life in these wild places. For that we thank you and will continue our efforts as the Foundation grows from strength to strength.
The Randy Smith Hall ~ Carlisle Bridge Farm School
“There are few people who have played a greater role in the lives of the kids of Carlisle Bridge than Randy Smith. He embodies the spirit of giving with a level of compassion only found in few. He has been the driving force behind so much of the developments at the school that it was fitting and unanimously agreed that it would be a privilege naming the new hall after him. “
