Giraffe Hunting – Why the Big Taboo?
Why is it that Giraffe Hunting is seen as such a big taboo?
Yes, it may not be for everyone, and for many hunters it will never be a specie they would like or want to pursue, but why does it enjoy greater emotional support than the many other species around the world. Surely Giraffe sustainability as a specie cannot depend on a model different to the one that has been proven to work in the past. We are not ruling out an alternative solution to the sustained protection of Giraffe in the future, but until that solution is found and more importantly proven to work over an extended period of time, then we must stick to a sustainable use model. One which sees older bulls, well past their prime, being hunted as part of a sustainable quota annually, in order to protect and grow the greater Giraffe population.
Giraffe hunting is a sensitive matter for both hunters and anti-hunters. Cable Smith and PH, Carl van Zyl, have taken the matter head-on. Have a watch and give it some thought. Before turning to emotion give science a chance.
